Six Wanted For Violently Assaulting Unhoused People In Maryland: Police (Video)

A group that preyed on the unhoused community during a series of violent assaults in Montgomery County earlier this month remains at large two weeks later, police say.

Surveillance video of six wanted suspects who attacked at least three men and one woman has been released as investigators attempt to identify and locate those involved.

The assaults were reported on Tuesday, July 16 in the 800 block of Ellsworth Drive in Silver Spring.

Investigators say that at approximately 4:45 a.m. on the morning of the incident, a dark-colored Honda Civic stopped in the area of Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street, at which point six people got out and approached their victims while they were sleeping.

A woman was asleep at a table when she was punched in the face, and when she went to grab her phone to alert the police, one of them grabbed it and broke it. Two men were asleep on a bench when the suspects approached them and assaulted both.

The fourth victim was chased by the group on Ellsworth Drive toward Georgia Avenue, though they eventually ended the pursuit.

The suspects were described as being: 

  • A Black man, wearing a black ski mask, grey shirt, jeans and white and grey sneakers;
  • A Black man, with short locs, wearing a grey shirt with white writing, black pants and black shoes;
  • A Black man, wearing a black hat, white t-shirt, black pants, light colored shoes and a black crossbody bag;
  • A Black man, wearing a black tank top, black pants and black and yellow sneakers;
  • A Black man, wearing all black clothing;
  • A Black woman, wearing a black short-sleeve t-shirt, black pants and white shoes.
